About Our Organization

Oru Progressive Association Houston (OPA Houston) was resuscitated in 2013 after previous attempts failed. The pioneer President in 2013 was Chief Sir Alex Anyikam. He handed over the presidency to Chief Joseph Akuechiama who also handed over the mantle of leadership to the immediate past president, High Chief Ernest Onwuharonye, Nnanyereugo-1 of Omuma Ancient Kingdom.

OPA Houston was formed out of the yearnings of citizens from the four local government areas that are south of Orlu Senatorial zone who see themselves as having common cultures, traditions, and other attributes in addition to inhabiting a contiguous geo-political landscape. Simply put, citizens of the four local government areas, south of Orlu Senatorial zone, see each other as natural brothers with so many things in common and therefore, saw the need to form an organization for collaboration and social interaction.

Popularly called ORU PILLAR within the community of ORA-Houston, OPA is indeed a strong pillar among the components of ORA-Houston and is unarguably by land mass, the largest portion among all the pillars of ORA-Houston. Added to the uncontested record of having the largest footprint within Orlu Senatorial zone is the fact that OPA region is the sole source of oil and gas in Imo state.

The four local government areas that make up OPA are Oru East, Oru West, Oguta, and Ohaji/Egbema. Citizens of OPA are loving, welcoming, and accommodating to both indigenes and visitors alike.
